The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook is a tough course that requires good ball-striking skills, a skill that's probably most valuable on tour. It's smaller than normal greens combined with elevation changes and tight doglegs demands that shot-making and shot placement skills be up to par. All in all, last year, this added up to make the Copperhead Course the 6th toughest course on tour.
The winner this week will probably not be the longest player on tour, but definitely one of the most accurate. It'll be the player who can envision the shots they hit and the player who succeeds in placing the ball exactly where they want. You'll notice that my picks this week rank high in various "ball striking" stats, such as GIR perentage, fairways hit, proximity to the hole. Players who rank high in these categories probably have the best chance of winning this week. My picks are:
1) Jim Furyk
2) Martin Laird
3) David Toms
Again, all rank pretty high in at least one of the categories above. Hopefully one of them will win. Stay tuned for our weekend update post on Friday to see who's leading.
