The course itself is set at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains and has been host to several majors on both the mens and senior mens side of play. Riviera plays at about 7,300 yards but this does include a ~320 yard drivable par 4.
In golf, there's few courses I find that can be associated to a single player. That's the case this week with Riviera and Fred Couples. You can't help of thinking of Fred when thinking of Riviera or vise versa, and for good reason. This year marks the 33rd appearance for Couples at the Northern Trust Open. It's also the 25th anniversary of his first win here, back in 1990. Fred plays really well in this tournament normally, despite his age compared to the other players, so naturally we'll be keeping an eye on him this week.
There's a lot of good players in the field this week, but we've narrowed down the field to three players who we think have the best chance of winning this week:
1) Bubba Watson
2) Brenden de Jonge
3) Nick Watney
Bubba won this tournament last year, de Jonge has been relatively quiet so far, and Watney should have some momentum from his good finish last week.
Be sure to check out our weekend update post so see who's winning and how our picks are doing,
-Nick
