What's even more amazing is that these three players were the only players to finish under par at the tournament, as conditions at Pinehurst No. 2 toughened as the week progressed.
With his win, Martin Kaymer becomes the second Major Champion from Germany, after Bernhard Langer. In his interview at the closing ceremony for the tournament, Kaymer happily noted that with their Major wins, he and Langer have almost completed the "German Gran Slam" (Lagner winning the Masters twice, and Kaymer winning the PGA Championship).
With Kaymer's play so far this year, it wouldn't be surprising if he came close to or even regained his place atop the World Golf Rankings. We'll just have to wait and see.
Finally, here's how our picks finished the tournament:
1) Jason Day: T4 at 1-over (+1) < Once again with a great major performance
2) Phil Mickelson: T28 at 7-over (+7)
1) Graeme McDowell: T42 at 7-over (+7)
Stay tuned next week for our coverage of the Irish Open,
